Green Schools
The Green School Project at Dromina National School
The Green-Schools project is a national initiative that seeks to create greener and more environmentally safe schools by developing and fostering environmental awareness among students. Dromina became a Green School in 2010 and has since participated in numerous environmental projects and green initiatives. Our school has so far earned five Green Flags for exemplary environmental work in each of the prescribed areas. At the heart of the Green School project is its committee which is composed of teachers, students and staff from the Primary School.

Dromina National School is awarded Fifth Green Flag
We are delighted to announce that during the closure of our school, we were awarded our FIFTH GREEN FLAG for BIODIVERSITY.
Over the last two years we have been working on a variety of different projects as part of this theme. These included building bug hotels, planting flowers and vegetables, working in our school gardens, putting up bird boxes and feeding the birds. The classes also explored a number of habitats on our school grounds. Identifying the birds in our garden, minibeasts in our bug hotel and identifying the many beautiful plants and flowers at the front of our school. We had a number of experts come and give talks about plants, minibeasts birds and other wildlife. We also participated in ‘The Great Plant Hunt’ project.
Many thanks again to all of the pupils, teachers, SNA’s and staff in our school for all the hard work put into getting this flag. It’s a great achievement. The team at Green schools were very impressed with our application.
Hopefully we will have news soon on the presentation ceremony and we look forward to celebrating this.
